PLACEMENT JOINTS

E very ceramics should be placed so that a space is left between each pair of tiles. That space is called "placement joint". It prevents the ceramic revetment from possible shifts of the base of masonry, of the placement mortar and from the expansion of the ceramic plaque itself.

When that space is not observed, any shift could cause the "inflation" outwards or even the unfastening of the plaques. During the placement, two types of joints should be observed:

Note::

  1. The width of the joints varies according to the size of the ceramic plaque. The ideal width is indicated in the ceramics packing.
  2. There are tools which help measure the correct spaces between the plaques.
  3. In order to prevent problems with rust, avoid using metallic tools during the placement.
